UW Curriculum Management System FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is UW CM?

The UW Curriculum Management system (UW CM) is an online paperless curriculum application process. This system serves all three UW campuses and supports the submission of course and undergraduate program/credential proposals.

How do I access UW CM?

UW faculty and staff log into UW CM with their UW NetID and password. If you experience issues, please contact the UW Curriculum Office at uwcr@uw.edu.

What type of proposals can I submit in UW CM?

The following proposals can be submitted in UW CM.

  • Courses
  • Undergraduate programs and credentials
  • Department information

Please contact the UW Graduate School to create or modify a graduate program.

How do I submit a course proposal in UW CM?

Please refer to the UW CM Quick Guides webpage for the various course proposal scenarios.

How do I submit program and/or credential proposals in UW CM?

Please refer to the UW CM Quick Guides webpage for the various program and credential proposal scenarios.

I’m having issues with my proposal. Who do I contact?

Please contact the UW Curriculum Office.

What is a workflow approval?

The workflow is also known as the approval process in UW CM. The proposal (course, program, credential, department information) will sit in an approval stop (node) until an action is taken by the approver assigned to that role.

It only takes one approval to advance a proposal in the workflow, even if there are multiple approvers for a node. Please refer to the Approval and Acknowledgment quick guide for more information.

What is a workflow acknowledgment?

A unit listed in the ‘Curricular Relationship’ section of a proposal (course, program, credential) will receive an email notification requesting review and acknowledgment of a proposed curricular relationship, or use of a course as a course prerequisite, program requirement, or program elective. Acknowledgment requests are sent after a proposal has been approved by the department chair/director node in the approval workflow.

An acknowledgment request is your opportunity as an affected unit to express support or concern with a proposed curricular relationship, or use of a course offered by your unit as a course prerequisite, program requirement, or program elective. Please refer to the Approval and Acknowledgment quick guide for more information.

How do I know when a proposal is pending my approval or acknowledgment?

An email notification is sent to you when a proposal is pending your approval or acknowledgment. To review the proposal, you can either click on the proposal link provided in the email or access it through your Action List in UW CM.

How were workflow approval and acknowledgment roles determined?

The nodes have been populated by the UW Curriculum Office based on the preference of your unit, college, school, or campus.

How do I update workflow approval and acknowledgment roles in UW CM?

Please contact the UW Curriculum Office.

As a workflow approver, how do I send back a proposal for a correction or curricular relationship update?

A course proposal (course, program, credential, department information) may be sent back in the workflow from an approval node to any prior approval node or the proposer. Please refer to the Workflow Send Back quick guide for more information.

How do I resubmit a proposal that was sent back to me?

Please refer to the Workflow Send Back quick guide.

How do I share a draft proposal?

Please refer to the Sharing Proposal Drafts quick guide. Please note, proposals can only be shared as drafts; once a proposal is submitted into the workflow, it cannot be shared with another UW CM user.

Can I view the history of changes made to my proposal?

Yes. The ‘Audit Log’ records all actions that have taken place on a proposal.
Click on the ‘Audit Log’ button in the right-hand navigation panel of a proposal to view a history of all proposal actions.

Are there any undergraduate program forms that are still paper-based and/or submitted outside of UW CM?

Yes. A Notice of Proposal is still submitted via a paper form. Please refer to the Undergraduate NOP quick guide.

I already have a paper-based 1503 undergraduate program proposal under review. Do I have to submit it in UW CM?

No. Units may continue to submit paper-based 1503 undergraduate program proposals via email to the UW Curriculum Office through winter quarter 2021. Effective spring quarter 2021, all undergraduate program proposals must be submitted in UW CM (paper-based 1503s already under review may complete the undergraduate program proposal review process outside of UW CM).

What is the difference between a program and a credential in UW CM?

Can I change a credential CIP Code in UW CM?
