Things to Remember

Think of your CPT application as a contract

  1. You may engage in CPT only after your ISS adviser authorizes your request in SEVIS and issues you a new I-20.
  2. The CPT authorization is for specific dates of training/employment on your I-20. You may not begin your training/employment before the start date or continue after the end date.
  3. For optional CPT experiences, you must register for and earn the credit indicated on your application.

When to Notify ISS

  • If you stop your position early. You will still be required to register for and earn CPT-related credit according to the application.
  • If you have changes in your employment. Examples: not continuing on with your employment, new position, new work address, etc.

To contact an ISS adviser, complete the ‘Contact Us’ from on the ISS website.
