Residency & ELPR Office Updates

These updates are for UW Seattle current and prospective students only.
UW Bothell and Tacoma current and prospective students – please visit the respective campus’s website for more information.

Advising Services

The Residency/ELPR Office is currently offering virtual appointments only (via Zoom) until further notice. Zoom advising appointments are available Monday through Thursday from 10am to 12noon and 1pm to 4pm.

Students are strongly encouraged to check their email at least two hours prior to the appointment time for Zoom meeting information. Students may access their Zoom meeting by telephone or computer audio.

Student Privacy

Reminder to parents and third-party representative(s) of a current or newly admitted UW student: Staff will be unable to discuss your student’s residency status or application with you due to federal and state privacy laws and office policy. Please have the student schedule the appointment. Additionally, the student must be present during the appointment.

Application Submissions and Review Process

Please note the following important changes to the application and document submission process.

  • Winter/Spring 2020 applicants: The deadline to submit additional documents for the Winter 2020 and Spring 2020 quarters has passed. The Residency Office is unable to take additional documents for the Winter 2020 and Spring 2020 application on file. Students who wish to be considered for residency in their next enrolled quarter must file a new application and supporting documents within the respective quarter’s application period and submission portal. There is no retroactive backdating, or retroactive review to previous quarters.
  • Summer 2020 applicants: The deadline to submit additional documents for the Summer 2020 quarter was Friday, August 21, 2020. Any additional documents submitted after this deadline will not be accepted. Please follow the submission instruction for Autumn 2020, below, to file a new application and supporting documents for consideration in the Autumn 2020. Summer applications cannot be transferred to the Autumn review. There is
    no retroactive backdating, or retroactive review to previous quarters.
  • Autumn 2020 applicants: Initial applications and any supporting documents filed for this Autumn 2020 quarter’s consideration must be submitted through the online submission portal by October 30, 2020 (statutory deadline). Additional documents requested by our office must also be submitted online by the December 18, 2020 deadline.

  • Winter 2021 applicants: Applications for Winter 2021 quarter are not being accepted at this time. This application period will begin December 4, 2020. Please check back for submission instructions at that time.

Submission Requirements

Mailed copies of documents are not currently being accepted. All submissions must be made via the online portal. However, students should keep the hard copy of their submission(s) as we may request these in the future.

The online submission portal has detailed instructions on how to proceed with the upload process. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Be sure application and supporting documents are submitted within the respective deadlines
  • Be sure application and supporting documents are submitted to the correct quarter’s online submission portal as detailed above.
  • The initial submission for the quarter must include the student’s fully completed and signed (physical signature or certified e-signature) residency application to begin a review
  • Be sure documents are uploaded in the correct file format (PDF, PNG, or JPG)
  • This online submission portal is only for UW Seattle students. Applications for UW Bothell or Tacoma should be submitted to the respective campuses.

All communication about the student’s application status will be sent by email to their UW address.
