Winter 2021 Registration Change Guide

Dear University of Washington students,

Welcome to the start of Winter 2021 for our returning students and a warm welcome to our new Huskies from your campus registrar teams!

Carefully review these instructions, deadlines, and links. Beginning January 11, there will be a $20.00 Change of Registration fee associated with any kind of changes to your registration for Winter 2021, with a maximum of $20.00 charged per day.

This guide provides information about how to add, drop, or withdraw from any or all of your Winter 2021 courses. You may not need these instructions until later in the quarter, so we suggest you hold onto this email for future reference. As always, consult with your adviser before making changes if you need assistance.

UW Academic Calendar 2020-2021

Review the University of Washington 2020-2021 Academic Calendar, paying careful attention to the Adding/Dropping Courses or Complete Withdrawal section.

New – Current Quarter Drop

Starting Winter 2021, students may use the Current Quarter Drop through the last day of instruction (March 12, 2021). Learn more about the new Current Quarter Drop process.

Note: If your enrollment is dependent on maintaining full-time status, including NCAA athletes and F-1 and J-1 international students, there may be cases where you cannot use the Current Quarter Drop self-service via MyUW. In these cases, you will need to use the Current Quarter Drop adviser-assisted process to request dropping your courses.

New – Former Quarter Drop

This process allows students to drop courses for quarters that have ended. Learn more about the Former Quarter Drop petition process which replaced the former Hardship Withdrawal Petition process.

Full Withdrawal After Seventh Week

Starting Winter 2021, students can no longer withdraw from all courses via MyUW. Following the 7th week, February 21st, email your campus registrar team from your uw.edu email address to notify them that you wish to make a full withdrawal from all of your classes. See email addresses below.

Registrar Drop (RD) – New Transcript Notation

The new RD (Registrar Drop) transcript annotation replaced the former W, W3-W7, and HW (Hardship Withdrawal), beginning Spring 2020.

Extraordinary Circumstances Quarter Late Grading Change Option

Winter 2021 has been designated an Extraordinary Circumstances Quarter. This means that in addition to changing grading options in MyUW from S/NS to numeric or numeric to S/NS up to the 7th week of the quarter (February 21, 2021), you may also request a late grading option change beginning March 23, 2021, after the instructor grade submission deadline. Note that the $20 Change of Registration fee applies each time you request a change to your registration.

Religious Accommodation Policy and Request Process

The deadline to submit an accommodation request for Winter 2021 is Friday, January 15 by 5 p.m. Learn more about the Religious Accommodations Policy.
