Late changes from the S/NS grading option to numeric are only allowed in situations where a course must have a numeric grade to meet one of the following requirements.
Reasons for Pre-major students (no declared major)
- The NS must be converted to a numeric grade to receive credit for the course.
- The S must be converted to a numeric grade to meet a prerequisite requirement for a course. Please confirm the required pre-requisite in the course catalog. You will need to list the class.
- The S must be converted to a numeric grade to qualify for declaring or being admitted to a major. You will need to list the Major.
Reasons for Students with a declared major
- The NS must be converted to a numeric grade to receive credit for the course.
- The S must be converted to a numeric grade to meet a prerequisite requirement for a course. Please confirm the required pre-requisite in the course catalog. You will need to list the class.
- The S must be converted to a numeric grade to meet a Major or Departmental requirement in your major.
- The S must be converted to a numeric grade to meet a General Education, Areas of Inquiry, or University GPA requirement.
Major, Departmental, General Education, Areas of Inquiry, and University GPA requirements correspond to sections on your DARS report. The course must place in one of those sections of your DARS to be eligible for S/NS to numeric grade conversion.
Alert – Graduate Students
When a graduate student chooses S/NS for a course, it cannot be changed once the quarer ends. Review scholastic regulation 110 graduate student section B. 5. “If approval is granted, the student must elect the S/NS option when registering or no later than the last day of finals week of the quarter. Numeric grades will not be converted subsequently to S/NS grades (or vice versa).”

- Numeric Grade: Course Requirement or Graduation Requirement
Student Acknowledgment and Agreement
- Request: Course changed from S/NS to Numeric grading.
- Numeric Grade: Needed for university, college, or major requirement.
- $20 Registration Change Fee: The fee will be assessed, per daily transaction, if the grading change is processed.
