Diplomas - Office of the University Registrar

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has suspended all outbound mail services to Iraq, Iran, and Israel until further notice. Diploma orders for addresses in any of these three countries will be suspended until such a time the student provides an alternate mailing address using the Diploma Name form or the ban is lifted.

General Diploma Information

UW diplomas have printed on them:

Graduate’s Name/Diploma Name
Degree earned
**Major and options (when applicable)
Applicable honors.

**Beginning with the Spring 2025 graduating class, majors, and options (when applicable) are printed on Bachelor degree diplomas.

Those who graduated prior to Spring 2025 cannot re-order their diplomas with majors.

Minors are NOT PRINTED on UW diplomas.

Diplomas are shipped out approximately two months after the student’s graduation date.

Students can order an official transcript as soon as their degree is granted as proof of graduation.

All UW diplomas are 8.5 by 11 inches, with two exceptions;

The Juris Doctor and the Master of Laws in Taxation diplomas are 11 by 14 inches.

Electronic Diplomas

Beginning with the Spring 2016 class, the UW offers graduates a Certified Electronic Diploma (CeDiploma). This is a true replication of the paper diploma that can be authenticated by the recipient. CeDiplomas are available once the initial paper diploma has been issued and are no cost to the graduate. Review the UW CeDiploma webpage for more information.

Diploma Name and Mailing Address

A student’s Diploma Name does not have to match their Student Record Name. Students can have their diploma issued in the name of their choice by providing that name information into the Diploma Name and Address form prior to graduation. This is also where students provide the mailing address for their diploma delivery. Students who do not provide their Diploma Name or mailing address via the form in time for their graduation date and/or diploma order will have their diplomas issued using their Student Record Name and delivered to their current mailing address.

Undeliverable Mail

Graduates may request and purchase a replacement diploma in the event their diploma does not arrive to the provided diploma mailing address or is not returned to the Registrar’s office by the postal service.

The University of Washington is not responsible for any undeliverable diploma mail.

Replacement Diplomas

Replacement diplomas are available for purchase and delivery for graduates of all three UW campuses by using the Replacement Diploma Request Portal. Replacement diplomas can be issued in the name of choice by providing the requested diploma name as part of the order form.

Payment can be made via PayPal or credit card and is due upon order.
