Summer 2025 Registration Change Guide

Dear University of Washington students,

Welcome to Summer 2025. This message is to provide you with important information about new changes around registration and your transcript that are effective for the 2024–2025 academic year.

You will also find important information about adding, dropping, or withdrawing from any or all of your Summer 2025 courses. You may not need these instructions until later in the quarter, so save this message for future reference.

Summer 2025 Registration Changes

We strongly encourage you to consult with your adviser or advising team before making any of the following changes.

Carefully review these instructions, deadlines, and links. A $20 Change of Registration fee is assessed for any number of add, drop, or change transactions to your Summer 2025 registration. Use the academic calendar to identify at what date this affects you.

UW Academic Calendar 2024-2025

Review the University of Washington 2024-2025 Academic Calendar, especially the “Adding/Dropping Courses or Complete Withdrawal” section for Summer 2025 deadlines.

Request a Religious Accommodation

It is the policy of the University to reasonably accommodate students’ religious observances. Learn more about the Religious Accommodations Policy.
Summer Full & A-term Deadline: Monday, Jul 7, 2025, 5:00 p.m.
Summer B-term Deadline: Friday, Aug 1, 2025, 5:00 p.m.

Time Conflicts

Students who register for two classes which meet for any portion of the same class time are responsible to meet the requirements of each course in terms of exams and instructor expectations.

Drop Courses from Your Schedule

Review the tuition forfeiture policy when considering course drops. You may not get all your tuition back depending on when you drop.

Summer B-term: Jul 31 – Aug 15, 2025
No fee charged. Course drops appear on your transcript.

To withdraw from all your courses, submit the Current Quarter Drop Adviser-Assisted Drop Request Form. Students may not completely withdraw after the last day of instruction. Each dropped course will appear on the transcript with an RD annotation. A withdrawal statement and the date of withdrawal will also appear. Consult with Student Fiscal Services regarding your tuition.

Drop Courses from a Previous Quarter

The Former Quarter Drop (FQD) option lets students request to drop past-quarter courses due to uncontrollable extenuating circumstances which prevented you from using the Current Quarter drop process. There is a one-year submission deadline. If approved, an RD will appear on your transcript for these courses.

Please review the policy and eligibility requirements to determine if this is the right process for you. You may also consider speaking to an adviser to support you through this process if you have questions or need guidance with completing the FQD process.

S/NS Grading

End of Finals Week/Quarter

Summer Full & B-term: Aug 22, 2025
Summer A-term: Jul 23, 2025

Use the S/NS Grading Option Change Process by the last day of the quarter to set your grade mode for eligible classes to S/NS or numeric grading.

Marking a course as S/NS means any requirement that the course might have fulfilled will still need to be completed later to graduate. We recommend you use S/NS grading sparingly. Petitions to revert to numeric grading from S/NS are approved in limited circumstances.

After the last day of finals week, graduate students will not be able to change an S/NS to a numeric grade, as per scholastic regulation 110, 1.B section 5.

The $20 Change of Registration fee applies each time you request a grading option change. Based on your overall financial situation, if incurring the grade change fee creates a hardship, you may want to contact the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Registration Tampering Abuse Policy: Don’t trade, buy, sell, or hold spots in classes!

Know that trading, buying, selling, or holding spots is a breach of the Registration Tampering Abuse Policy. Consequences include referral to the Student Code of Conduct process, a Registrar’s Hold on your record, and potential diploma withholding for graduating students until the conduct process is complete.

Pronouns

The University of Washington is committed to ensuring everyone is welcomed here as their authentic self. You can find a new central online resource on the Husky Health & Well-Being website with important information about Sharing Pronouns at UW.

Manage Your Name Types

The University provides students with the ability to provide the University with a variety of name types associated with your student records. Review the name types and learn how to manage your name.
