Affidavit of Residency

Washington Higher Education Residency Affidavit

Students qualify for residency if they meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Received a high school diploma (or equivalent) at a Washington public or private high school.
  2. Lived in Washington for at least three calendar years (36 months) immediately prior to receiving the diploma or its equivalent.
  3. Continuously live in the state of Washington after receiving the diploma or its equivalent and until such time as the student is admitted to an institution of higher education.

Students who meet all of the above criteria should complete and submit the Washington Higher Education Residency Affidavit. Upon completing this form, students certify that they will file an application to become a U.S. Permanent Resident at the earliest opportunity.

The original form must be returned to the Residence Classification Office via the submission portal for the quarter you are applying for. If the submission portal for that quarter is not yet open, you will need to wait until it is to submit your material. We do not accept documents by email, postal mail, or any other method.

Non-UW Seattle students should submit their forms as noted below:
*Students who apply to multiple campuses must submit an affidavit to each campus.
